Social Life

Social Life in Stockholm revolved around the Church, (be it Catholic, Luthern or Baptist), the company (especially during the era of Atlas Plywood), and the ethnic community.  The towns location in the Maine woods also meant that opportunites for outdoor recreation abounded. The following pages feature snapshots of Stockholm's social life.

Eureka Hall, seen at right was built by the Odd Fellows in 1924, and hosted its first ball in December of that year.  The center of much community activity, the Hall featured a movie theater, and was the site of town meetings as well as gatherings of the Odd Fellows (later known as the Eureka Club).  For a brief time in the mid 1920s, it was also the meeting place for the town's Catholic church.
