Mill Town

In their heyday, the mills dominated the town of Stockholm physically as well as economically. In this c. 1920 veiw of the town from the river, the most prominant feature is the massive pile of logs on the far left.

The building of the mill dam, seen at left, transformed the sleepy Little Madawaska River into a holding pen for the logs for the mills.  It also transformed the landscape of the town.

The Veneer Mill, center, and company store, at right are the dominant landmarks in this photograph taken from behind the Baptist Church.
