Other major crops for Stockholm's farmers included  hay and oats for feed.  The photo at left shows a two-horse mowing machine, c. 1900.

Because the  hilly terrain, was hard on early motors, horses remained a crucial source of power longer in Stockholm than in other parts of Maine.
